Driving Tips for Driving Test

Before Drive Checks:

1.Indicators, Tyres

2.Headlights

3.Handbrake -on

4.Brake, lights

5.Wipers, demisters, hazard lights...

Starting Up Procedures:

1.Adjust seat +, Seatbelt on

2.Mirrors, maybe put key in the ignition

3.Handbrake on

4.Gear on Park (auto)

5.Right foot on brake pedal

6.Insert the key and start motor

7.Check the dash board if any warning light except handbrake light

Leaving kerb:

1. Foot on brake pedal

2. Start motor, if engine is not runing.

3. Indicate right at least 5 seconds

4. Select Gear D (drive)

5. Release handbrake

6. Check Mirrors & blind spots (scan from left blind spot to right blind spot)

7. Turn the Steering Wheel 1/4 to right  (Full lock to the right side, if there is a car in front).

8. When it is safe (6 sec gap), move off by Smooth clutch control

9. Flow with traffic & cancel signal within 5 sec

Returning to kerb (Kerb side stop)

1. Indicate left intention at least 30-60 m

2. Check mirrors & blind spots on left

3. If safe & sufficient gap turn steering wheel to left (1/4 to 1/2 turn)

4. Reduce speed and return to kerb

5. Straight wheel (1/4 to1/2 turn to right)

6. Stop parallel to the kerb 10-50cm

7. steering wheel straight.

8. Select Park gear(1st gear in Manual)

9. Handbrake on

10. Cancel indicator

11. Switch off engine

3 Point Turn:

To the kerb

1.Indicate left, check left mirror, blind spot on left

2.Stop with in 50cm from kerb DO NOT switch engine off

3.Indicator off

First movement

1.Indicate right 5sec, mirrors, blind spots (scan from left to right)

2.Moving across the road with full right steering wheel lock, before 

         approaching straighten wheel then stop before hit the kerb

Second movement

1.Gear on Reverse, head check both sides

2.Look out rear window (over left shoulder)

3.Reverse slowly with full left lock, stop before hit kerb

Third movement

1.Gear on Drive, head check both sides

2.Drive slowly with right steering adjustment & complete you turn.

        (remember, no dry steering. Always head check, if safe then moving)

 Mirrors:

Check mirrors before

Indicating, Turns, Braking,

15-20 seconds on a straight drive

Turns/Roundabouts:

1.Mirror checks

2.Indicate to the direction

3.Head checks,if any cars coming from right of the roundbout.

4.Correct road position

5.Correct speed

6.Correct gear (for Manual)

7.Smooth braking and gear change(Manual)

8.If needed, stop behind line within 1 meter (DO NOT over the line)

9. Indicate left when coming out of roundabouts

      10.  Cancel indicator after exiting roundabout.

Safety scanning:

1.3 second crash avoidance space from the car travelling in front.

2.Door (1m) width away when passing stationary cars

3.1-2 car length back when stopping behind a car in a line of traffic.

4.Head checks within 2 seconds before moving laterally.

5.Stop behind, not over, painted lines eg. stop or give way lines

6.Check intersections before coming to them, not after

Reverse Parallel Parking:

1. Indicate left intention at least 30-60 m,

2. Check mirrors, blind spot

3. Stop parallel 1 door width along side of parked car

4. Gear on Reverse

5. Check surrounding from left to right (mirrors and blind spots), make sure it is safe.

6. Look out of rear window when in reverse (over left shoulder)

7. Turn steering wheel full lock to left while car reverse slowly.

8. Make angle between 40-45 degree, straight steering wheel and keep reversing before reach kerb.

9. Turn steering wheel full lock to right, keep reversing slowly until your car is parallel to kerb.

10. Park 10-50cm from kerb and 1-2 meters from the car in front

11. Gear on Park, handbrake on, cancel indicator.
